Hiring and Training


Individuals who wish to be considered for the position of a police officer with LCPD must meet the following requirements:

·         Be 21 years of age

·         High school graduate or GED equivalency

·         Not have been convicted of any felony, or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude

·         Be a certified Peace Officer with the State of Utah, or;

·         Currently be enrolled in a Utah Law Enforcement Certification course prior to the date of testing, or;

·         Pass the Utah N-POST entrance Exam. DSC_8305 - Copy

Prospective Officers will submit an application through the city HR website then attend a testing date in Logan. Applicants will be required to complete a pass/fail physical fitness test.  This test consists of performing a 16” vertical jump, 1 repetition bench press of 70% of body weight, 45 crunches performed in one minute, 24 pushups, and a 1.5 mile run performed in less than 15:30.

Applicants will then perform a video based multiple choice scenario test, a video based report writing test, and a multiple choice reading based test.

Applicants will then be ranked on a weighted scale based on test scores, with points given for education, prior law enforcement experience, second languages, and military police experience.

Interviews will be performed by the LCPD command staff with in depth background and reference checks completed by detectives thereafter.
